The VET-MRI system applies a radio frequency pulse of a specific frequency to the pet body in the static magnetic field, so that the hydrogen protons in the body are excited and the magnetic resonance phenomenon occurs. After the pulse is stopped, the protons relax to generate MR signals that map the structure inside the pet’s body.
1. Problems that MRI can help pets solve
Common site cases where pets clinically use MRI for examination are:
1)Skull: suppurative otitis media, meningoencephalitis, cerebral edema, hydrocephalus, brain abscess, cerebral infarction, brain tumor, nasal cavity tumor, eye tumor, etc.
2)Spinal nerve: intervertebral disc compression of spinal nerve, intervertebral disc degeneration, spinal cord tumor, etc.
3)Chest:intrathoracic tumor, heart disease, cardiovascular disease, pulmonary edema, pulmonary embolism, lung tumor, etc.
4)Abdominal cavity: It is helpful for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of solid organs such as liver, kidney, pancreas, spleen, adrenal gland, and colorectum.
5)Pelvic cavity: It is helpful for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the uterus, ovary, bladder, prostate, seminal vesicles and other organs.
6)Limbs and joints: myelitis, aseptic necrosis, tendon and ligament injury diseases, etc.
2. Precautions for pet MRI examination
1)Pets with metal objects in their bodies should not be examined by MRI.
2)Patients who are critically ill or who are not suitable for anesthesia should not undergo MRI examination.
3)It is not necessary to perform MRI examination during pregnancy.
3.The advantages of MRI
1)High resolution of soft tissue
The soft tissue resolution of MRI is obviously better than that of CT, so it has incomparable advantages of CT in the examination of diseases of the central nervous system, abdomen, pelvis and other solid organs!
2)Comprehensive assessment of the lesion area
Magnetic resonance imaging can perform multi-planar imaging and multi-parameter imaging, and can comprehensively evaluate the relationship between the lesion and surrounding organs, as well as the internal tissue structure and composition of the lesion.
3)Vascular imaging is obvious
MRI can image blood vessels without the use of contrast agents.
4)No X-ray radiation
Nuclear magnetic examination does not have X-ray radiation and is not harmful to the body.
4. Clinical application
The significance of pet MRI examination is not only a single examination of the brain and neurological system, it is a new type of high-tech imaging examination method in recent years, which can be used for tomography of almost any part of the pet’s body.
1)Nervous system
MRI diagnosis of pet nervous system lesions, including tumor, infarction, hemorrhage, degeneration, congenital malformation, infection, etc., has almost become a means of diagnosis. MRI is very effective in detecting brain diseases such as cerebral hematoma, brain tumor, intraspinal tumor, syringomyelia and hydromyelitis.
2)Thoracic cavity
MRI also has unique advantages for pet heart diseases, lung tumors, heart and great blood vessel lesions, and intrathoracic mediastinal masses.
3)ENT
MRI has more obvious advantages in the examination of pet ENT. It can do tomography of nasal cavity, paranasal sinus, frontal sinus, vestibular cochlea, retrobulbar abscess, throat and other parts.
4)Orthopedics
MRI also has great advantages in the diagnosis of pet bone, joint and muscle lesions, and can be used for the diagnosis of early osteomyelitis, anterior cruciate ligament rupture, meniscus injury, femoral head necrosis, and muscle tissue lesions.
5)The genitourinary system
The lesions of pet uterus, ovary, bladder, prostate, kidney, ureter and other soft tissue organs are very clear and intuitive in magnetic resonance imaging.
